Slate was from Kay Clarke’s Blaujager kennel, in Wales. Kay owned both of Slate’s parents and had made them up to Show Champions.

Given her parentage, we tried our hands at showing to begin with. But Slate was a very small Weimaraner and we were never very successful!

We knew nothing about gundog training and Slate was our first dog. But we had been told that Weims ‘needed a job’ to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. Gundog work seemed the obvious choice.

We tried out several dog sports before deciding what to pursue - and we learnt a lot about dog training, in the process.
